Modelling of Diffusing Capacity Measurement Results in Lung Microangiopathy Patients
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Lung microangiopathy is a little known negative influence of diabetes mellitus on the functioning of the lungs. In current medical practice lung microangiopathy is diagnosed by comparing two measurements of lung diffusing capacity – once with the subject standing and once with the subject lying down. The necessity to take two measurements is inconvenient. Objectives: The aim of this study is to design a supportive method for diagnosing lung microangiopathy. This will be based on routinely performed pulmonary measurements as well as on investigation of process modelling and data processing. Methods: A model of the diffusion of oxygen from the alveoli to the blood has been described with a set of differential equations. The idea of the proposed model is based on the physiological analysis of the oxygen flow (caused by a concentration gradient) and on general knowledge regarding the kinetics of

متن کاملThe Role of EDD (Exercise Capacity, Dyspnea, and Diffusing Capacity of Lungs for Carbon Monoxide) Index in Pulmonary Fibrosis Secondary to Scleroderma
Introduction: Pulmonary involvement secondary to Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in SSc patients. We designed this study to determine the correlation of important lung function parameters with lung High Resolution CT (HRCT) scan findings. Materials and Methods: Thirty–two consecutive diffuse SSc patients with pulmonary fibrosis were enrolled in this cross...

STUDY OBJECTIVE To assess whether posture-related changes of diffusing capacity could be considered as an early sensitive marker of pulmonary abnormalities in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and whether the postural variations of pulmonary capillary blood volume (Vc) could reflect the lung capillary damage that characterizes the diabetic microangiopathy. DESIGN Carbon...
متن کاملDiminished Alveolar Microvascular Reserves in Type 2 Diabetes Reflect Systemic Microangiopathy
OBJECTIVE Alveolar microvascular function is moderately impaired in type 1 diabetes, as manifested by restriction of lung volume and diffusing capacity (DL(CO)). We examined whether similar impairment develops in type 2 diabetes and defined the physiologic sources of impairment as well as the relationships to glycemia and systemic microangiopathy. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A cross-sectional...
متن کاملThe Assessment of Health-Related Quality of Life in Scleroderma-Interstitial Lung Disease
Introduction: Pulmonary involvement is the most common cause of mortality and disability in patients with systemic sclerosis and it significantly affects the quality of life in these patients. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary involvement seems necessary in patients with SSc. In this study, we aimed to assess the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with Sclero...
